Description

This is a live recording of NCNF's event on 10/06/2026. Speaker Bio: Dr. Emily Paolillo, PhD is an assistant professor and neuropsychologist at the UCSF Edward and Pearl Fein Memory and Aging Center, part of the UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences. Dr. Paolillo earned her PhD in clinical psychology, with an emphasis in neuropsychology, from the SDSU/UCSD Joint Doctoral Program in 2021. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the Fein Memory and Aging Center before joining the faculty, where she gained extensive experience working with older adults and individuals with neurodegenerative conditions. Her research focuses on advancing methods to assess cognition and daily functioning in older adults in real-world environments. Dr. Paolillo is particularly interested in developing and validating digital health tools that can sensitively detect early changes in Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. By integrating technology into clinical care and research, her work aims to enhance the early identification of cognitive and functional decline, leading to more effective care and intervention strategies. Learning Objectives for the talk are: 1. Identify common neurodegenerative syndromes based on their characteristic cognitive, behavioral, and functional profiles, and link these to possible underlying etiologies. 2. Compare and contrast currently available in-vivo biomarkers for common neurodegenerative diseases, including their clinical applications, limitations, and relevance to differential diagnosis. 3. Describe at least three roles of neuropsychologists in the evaluation and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases (such as recommending referrals or further workup for various neurodegenerative diseases, evaluating treatment eligibility for various neurodegenerative diseases, establishing pretreatment baselines, monitoring cognitive and functional change over the course of treatments, and/or delivering non-pharmacological/behavioral interventions).
